Dg Kalivas

Born in Harlem, and raised in Washington Heights, NYC. Marleen “DG” Kalivas, is a versatile Dominican-Greek female writer, rapper and producer. She first began writing short stories at the tender age of six! Accepted to LaGuardia High-school for piano and violin. DG Kalivas was undergoing behavioral issues. And her mother sent her “away” to live with her aunt in southern Florida. But DG has proven her main gift is writing. She is author of a children’s book, “The Fish Boy,” illustrated by her daughter. She began writing poetry in 1990 after falling in love with 90s hiphop! Eventually, converted those poetries to rap songs. One of her first tracks was recorded on cassette deck, over an Illmatic Instrumental in 1993 , “NY State of Mind” produced by DJ Premier. Realizing how the industry sexualizes female rappers, she remained behind the scenes in the Urban Latin market. But not before recording several tracks with known 90’s rappers and producers. Rawkus Records agreed to sign her in 1991. Her mother did NOT sign the deal.
