Story

The origin of the word of the festival is originally a change of "worship" and "dedication" that comes from worshiping God (meaning ritual) and offering to God (meaning dedication) in Shinto ritual, and the original meaning is "God". Inviting God as a place to interact with people and entertaining them was changed to praying for good harvest, good fishing, and good hunting to God, and thank you for fulfilling that prayer. It seems that an event called a festival was born as a form of expressing gratitude.

祭りの語源は、元々は神事において神様に仕え祀る(祭祀の意)や、神様に供え奉る(奉納の意)からくる「祀り」や「奉り」が変化したもので、本来の意味は神様と人との交流の場として神様をお招きして饗応(きょうおう)接待をすることであったのが、いつしか神様に豊作や豊漁・豊猟を祈願することに変わり、その祈願成就のお礼や感謝の気持ちを表わす形として祭りという行事が生れてきたようです。
