根據原來漫畫的設定，阿童木誕生於2003年4月7日。製造者是當時的日本科學省省長天馬博士，因為兒子飛雄在交通意外中死亡，因為無法忍受喪子之痛而製造了阿童木，並將其當作兒子一樣疼愛。
