「邁泰奧拉」也譯為梅提歐拉，希臘語意為「懸浮的石頭」、「懸浮在空中」，如果冬春季節來臨時幸運地遇見雲海，便可欣賞到傳說中雲海之上冒出一根根石柱的奇幻絶景。據說宮崎駿當年創作天空之城的靈感就來源於此，而搖滾樂團「林肯公園Linkin Park」的頂峰之作CD也叫這個名字，他們被邁泰奧拉仿佛抗拒地心引力般的鬼斧神工而深深震撼，得到靈感並以此命名，他們希望這張碟的音樂也能同樣震撼人心，果然在出版後大受歡迎。1981年拍攝的「最高機密For your eyes only」也曾在這裡取景，其獨特的地理環境，因此被眾多遊客評為一生必須探訪的特殊景點之一。
