「卡帕多奇亞」在大約一千多萬年前，這裡的三座火山發生猛烈爆發，噴出的岩漿和火山灰覆蓋超過一萬平方公里地表，平均厚度達 100到 150公尺。火山運動平息後，冷卻的岩漿和火山灰形成質地鬆軟的凝灰岩，經過漫漫時光中河流、雨水的侵蝕和風化作用，大自然神奇力量逐漸將石灰岩地形雕琢成怪石林立的大小山谷，不但有成片的石頭波浪，還有各式各樣的錐狀石筍和細長的煙囪石。由於岩石在形成過程中溫度和礦物含量的差異，石質呈現出灰、白、紅、黃、粉紅、綠等顏色，奇特的地型添上斑斕色彩讓卡帕多奇亞看起來更加不真實，彷如置身遙遠的外星球。

「卡帕多奇亞」除了地形令人讚嘆之外，地下城市也是必逛景點。西元7世紀時，基督教徒爲了躲避拜占庭時期的宗教迫害，來到土耳其中部的卡帕多奇亞鑿穴而居，洞穴裡有完善的糧倉、馬廄、廚房與祭壇等空間，這些大大小小的洞穴從地上延伸到地下幾十公尺，逐漸形成規模龐大的地下城市。目前「卡帕多奇亞」地區發現的地下城目前已有36座，許多城都深入到地下十多層，大多都只開放前五層給遊客參觀。走進每個洞窟，會發現藏有許多壁畫，這些壁畫都是敘述著許多早期居民的文化與故事。旅客來到土耳其中部的「卡帕多奇亞 」最希望嚐試的莫過於上百顆熱氣球同時升空自由飛翔的夢幻景象，隨著熱氣球緩緩升空，將飽覽卡帕多奇亞鬼斧神工的地貌景觀，還能感受被色彩繽紛熱氣球環繞的夢幻氛圍。這座於1985年已經被登錄於世界遺產，因此每年吸引了超過百萬世界各地的旅客前來，是土耳其熱門的旅遊景點。這裡的每項景觀活動都帶給遊客難忘的度假體驗。
